  1. 1. Wash the lemons thoroughly with hot water and dry them. Cut the peel into fine zest and squeeze the juice from all the lemons.
  2. 2. Bring the lemon juice together with the zest, the sugar and 600 ml water to a boil. Simmer for about 5 minutes, then add the basil and remove from the heat. Let cool and steep for about 1 hour.
  3. 3. Strain the syrup through a fine sieve, bring to a boil again and fill into prepared bottles. Let cool completely with a good seal.
