🍽️ Spicy Indian-style Chicken (Chicken Tikka Masala)

Ingredients
- 1 chicken (ready for kitchen; 1,2–1,4 kg)
- salt
- pepper from the mill
- 1 organic lemon
- 30 g ginger
- 2 garlic cloves
- 500 g yogurt (3,5 % fat)
- 2 tbsp rapeseed oil
- 1 tsp paprika powder
- 0.5 tsp ground cumin
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 0.5 tsp chili powder
- 0.5 tsp turmeric
- 2 tbsp freshly chopped coriander leaves
Instructions
- 1. Rinse the chicken under cold running water and pat it thoroughly dry with a kitchen towel.
- 2. Cut the chicken into 6 to 8 pieces.
- 3. Poke the surface of the meat pieces several times with a fork or knife to help the marinade penetrate better.
- 4. Place the meat pieces in a shallow baking dish.
- 5. Season the meat with salt and pepper to taste.
- 6. Cut a lemon in half and squeeze out the juice.
- 7. Pour the lemon juice evenly over the chicken pieces.
- 8. Let the meat marinate at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
- 9. Peel a clove of garlic and a piece of ginger.
- 10. Grate the ginger finely.
- 11. Mince the garlic very finely.
- 12. Mix yogurt with the spices for the marinade and the finely chopped coriander leaves in a bowl.
- 13. Stir the grated ginger and chopped garlic into the yogurt mixture.
- 14. Coat the chicken pieces generously with the yogurt marinade.
- 15. Cover the baking dish tightly with plastic wrap or a lid.
- 16. Place the dish in the refrigerator and let the meat marinate for 8 hours or overnight.
- 17. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees (160 degrees for fan-assisted or gas mark 2–3).
- 18. Line a baking sheet with baking paper.
- 19. Place the marinated chicken pieces on the prepared baking sheet.
- 20. Put the tray in the preheated oven and bake the chicken for 35 to 40 minutes.
- 21. Take the tray out occasionally and brush the meat pieces with about a quarter of the remaining marinade.
- 22. Pour a little water into the dish if necessary to prevent the meat from drying out.
- 23. Heat the remaining marinade in a small saucepan.
- 24. Add the baked chicken pieces to the hot marinade.
- 25. Let the dish simmer for another 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- 26. Finally, season the dish to taste with salt and pepper.
- 27. Serve the Chicken Tikka Masala with rice as desired.
