  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius fan-assisted.
  2. 2. Remove the outer leaves from the savoy cabbage and cut the vegetable into quarters.
  3. 3. Cut out the hard core from the inside of the savoy cabbage quarters.
  4. 4. Divide the savoy cabbage halves into six pieces.
  5. 5. Blanch the savoy cabbage in plenty of boiling salted water for about 10 minutes.
  6. 6. Remove the cabbage from the water and rinse it with cold water.
  7. 7. Let the savoy cabbage drain well.
  8. 8. Grate the cheese finely.
  9. 9. Cut the ham into thin strips.
  10. 10. Wash the spring onions and trim the ends.
  11. 11. Slice the spring onions into thin rings.
  12. 12. Grease an ovenproof dish with butter.
  13. 13. Place the savoy cabbage wedges into the prepared dish.
  14. 14. Season the savoy cabbage with salt and pepper.
  15. 15. Sprinkle the grated cheese and ham strips over the top.
  16. 16. Distribute the spring onion rings and sunflower seeds over the gratin.
  17. 17. Pour the cream over the vegetables.
  18. 18. Bake the gratin in the preheated oven until golden brown and bubbling.
