  3. 3. Let the salad drain.
  4. 4. Cut the bread into small cubes.
  5. 5. Heat some oil in a pan.
  6. 6. Toast the bread cubes until golden brown over medium heat.
  7. 7. Season the croutons with salt and pepper.
  8. 8. Remove the pan from the heat.
  9. 9. Let the croutons cool down.
  10. 10. Put vinegar, salt, and pepper into a sealable jar.
  11. 11. Add oil to the jar.
  12. 12. Shake the jar vigorously.
  13. 13. Wait until the vinaigrette (a sauce made of oil and vinegar) has emulsified.
  14. 14. Toss the salad with the vinaigrette shortly before serving.
  15. 15. Sprinkle the cooled croutons over the salad.
