🍰 Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream with Chocolate Swirls

Ingredients
- 0.5 l milk
- 0.25 l whipping cream
- 1 vanilla pod
- 7 egg yolks
- 200 g sugar
- 100 g chocolate coating
Instructions
- 1. Slice the vanilla pod lengthwise.
- 2. Scrape out the tiny black seeds (the pulp) from the pod.
- 3. Add the vanilla pods and seeds to the cream and milk mixture.
- 4. Heat the milk and cream mixture until it begins to boil.
- 5. Whisk the egg yolks together with the sugar in a bowl until creamy.
- 6. Stir the hot milk slowly into the egg yolk mixture.
- 7. Pour everything back into the saucepan.
- 8. Remove the vanilla pods from the liquid.
- 9. Continue stirring the cream over low heat with a wooden spoon.
- 10. Stop stirring as soon as the cream thickens.
- 11. Make sure the cream does not boil again.
- 12. Strain the vanilla cream through a fine sieve to remove any lumps.
- 13. Place the bowl with the cream into a bath of ice water.
- 14. Let the cream cool down and stir it occasionally.
- 15. Melt the chopped chocolate in a double boiler.
- 16. Let the melted chocolate cool down slightly.
- 17. Take about half of the cooled vanilla cream.
- 18. Mix the vanilla cream with the chocolate.
- 19. Pour the cold chocolate cream into the ice cream maker.
- 20. Also pour the remaining plain vanilla cream into the ice cream maker.
- 21. Freeze both creams until semi-firm in the machine.
- 22. Take the semi-firm ice cream out.
- 23. Place it into a bowl.
- 24. Swirl the ice creams together by mixing and layering them.
- 25. Let the ice cream freeze completely in the freezer.
- 26. Alternatively, pour the ice cream mixtures into shallow metal trays if you do not have an ice cream maker.
- 27. Let them become semi-firm in the freezer.
- 28. Stir the ice creams repeatedly during the first hour.
- 29. Take the ice creams out, place them in a bowl, and swirl them.
- 30. Let the ice cream freeze completely in the freezer.
- 31. Scoop balls out of the ice cream with an ice cream scoop for serving.
