  1. 1. Cut the vanilla pod lengthwise, scrape out the seeds, and stir them together with the pod into the cream-milk mixture and bring to a boil.
  2. 2. Whisk the egg yolks with the sugar in a bowl until frothy.
  3. 3. Carefully stir the hot milk into the egg yolk mixture, return everything to the pot, remove the vanilla pod, and stir with a wooden spoon over low heat until the mixture thickens, but do not let it boil.
  4. 4. Strain the vanilla cream through a sieve and let it cool in a bowl with ice water, stirring occasionally.
  5. 5. Fill the cooled cream into the ice cream maker and let it freeze.
  6. 6. (If you don't have an ice cream maker, fill into a shallow metal bowl and let it freeze solid in the freezer compartment, stirring several times during the first hour).
  7. 7. To serve, wash, clean, and sort the berries. Chop the olives and mix them with the berries. Scoop balls with an ice cream scoop and serve on wild strawberries with olives.
