  3. 3. Peel the garlic cloves.
  4. 4. Mince the garlic very finely.
  5. 5. Heat the olive oil in a pot.
  6. 6. Add the minced garlic to the hot oil.
  7. 7. Sauté the garlic briefly until fragrant.
  8. 8. Stir in the tomato paste.
  9. 9. Add the cut tomatoes.
  10. 10. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  11. 11. Season with a pinch of sugar.
  12. 12. Salt the sauce to taste.
  13. 13. Pepper the sauce to taste.
  14. 14. Add the thyme sprig to the pot.
  15. 15. Fold in the chopped basil.
  16. 16. Let the sauce simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes.
  17. 17. Pour the finished sauce through a fine sieve.
  18. 18. Taste the strained sauce one more time.
