  1. 1. Peel the apples and cut them into two halves.
  2. 2. Remove the core from the apple halves.
  3. 3. Roughly grate the apple halves.
  4. 4. Heat a pan and melt the butter in it.
  5. 5. Add the grated apples to the hot pan.
  6. 6. Toss the apples briefly in the pan.
  7. 7. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon over the apples.
  8. 8. Add the lemon juice.
  9. 9. Add the currants.
  10. 10. Let the mixture simmer for about 2 to 3 minutes on low heat.
  11. 11. Place the apple spread into bowls.
  12. 12. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon on top.
  13. 13. Sprinkle the oats on top.
  14. 14. Sweeten the spread to taste with syrup.
  15. 15. Serve the spread.
  16. 16. Optionally serve white bread alongside.
