  1. 1. Mound the flour, sugar, vanilla sugar, and lemon zest on a clean work surface.
  2. 2. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and place the egg inside.
  3. 3. Distribute the butter in small pieces around the egg.
  4. 4. Chop the ingredients with a large knife until a crumbly mass forms.
  5. 5. Quickly knead the crumbs together with your hands to form a smooth dough.
  6. 6. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap.
  7. 7. Store the dough in the refrigerator or a cool place between 0 and 10 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes.
  8. 8. Press the dough flat on a lightly floured surface.
  9. 9. Roll out the dough to a thickness of 3 to 4 millimeters.
  10. 10. Use a spatula to repeatedly lift the dough from the surface to prevent sticking.
  11. 11. Cut out 10 boot shapes from the dough, preferably using a template.
  12. 12. Place the boots on a baking sheet.
  13. 13. Bake the cookies in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius for 10 to 12 minutes.
  14. 14. Remove the hot cookies from the tray immediately after baking using a spatula.
  15. 15. Place the cookies on a wire rack and let them cool.
  16. 16. Knead the marzipan base thoroughly with yellow food coloring.
  17. 17. Roll out the colored marzipan thinly.
  18. 18. Cut out small stars from the marzipan.
  19. 19. Mix powdered sugar with lemon juice to create a glaze.
  20. 20. Take a small portion of the glaze and color it yellow.
  21. 21. Color the remaining part of the glaze red.
  22. 22. Brush the cooled boots with the red glaze.
  23. 23. Fill the yellow glaze into a small piping bag.
  24. 24. Trace the outlines of the boots with the yellow glaze.
  25. 25. Place the marzipan stars immediately onto the still wet glaze.
  26. 26. Decorate the boots as desired with sugar pearls, for example as a Christmas tree.
