🍽️ Grilled Steaks with Apple Chutney and Pearl Onions

Ingredients
- 3 tart apples (e.g. Boskop)
- 1 Orange
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 20 g sugar
- 2 tbsp fruit vinegar
- 1 pinch chili powder
- 1 tbsp brown mustard seeds
- 1 tsp black sesame
- 2 star anise
- 1 tsp turmeric
- salt
- 400 g fresh pearl onions (or from a jar)
- 4 beef steaks (approx. 180 g each)
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- pepper (from a mill)
Instructions
- 1. Wash the apples, peel them, and cut them into small cubes.
- 2. Place the apple pieces into a pot.
- 3. Stir in the lemon juice, sugar, and vinegar.
- 4. Add the chili, mustard, sesame seeds, star anise, turmeric, and half a teaspoon of salt.
- 5. Bring the mixture to a boil while stirring constantly.
- 6. Let the chutney simmer uncovered for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 7. Peel the orange and remove the fruit flesh in small pieces.
- 8. Fold the orange pieces into the chutney at the end.
- 9. Fill the finished chutney into jars.
- 10. Preheat the grill.
- 11. Clean the pearl onions and halve them.
- 12. Rinse the steaks briefly and pat them dry with a kitchen towel.
- 13. Place the steaks on the hot grill.
- 14. Grill the steaks for about 2 minutes per side, depending on your desired level of doneness.
- 15. Season the steaks with salt and pepper after grilling.
- 16. Mix the pearl onions with the oil.
- 17. Season the onions with salt and pepper.
- 18. Place the onions in a grilling pan.
- 19. Grill the onions for about 10 minutes, turning them several times.
- 20. Serve the steaks together with the grilled onions and the chutney.
- 21. Optionally serve orange wedges on the side.
