🍰 Crispy Bacon and Onion Pie

Ingredients
- 200 g flour
- 100 g cold butter
- 1 egg yolk
- salt
- 4 onions
- 250 g streaky bacon
- 2 tbsp sunflower oil
- 0.5 tsp caraway seeds
- 4 eggs
- 200 ml whipping cream
- 200 ml milk
- 75 g Gruyère cheese
- pepper
- nutmeg
Instructions
- 1. Sift the flour into a bowl.
- 2. Cut the butter into small cubes.
- 3. Add the egg yolk, three to five tablespoons of cold water, and a pinch of salt to the flour and butter.
- 4. Knead the ingredients quickly into a smooth dough.
- 5. Wrap the dough in cling film.
- 6. Let the dough rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- 7. Peel the onions.
- 8. Slice the onions into thin rings.
- 9. Cut the bacon into small cubes.
- 10. Heat oil in a large pan.
- 11. Sauté the bacon and onions over medium heat for about 5 minutes.
- 12. Add the cumin.
- 13. Remove the pan from the heat and set the mixture aside.
- 14. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius fan-forced.
- 15. Line a springform pan with baking paper.
- 16. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface.
- 17. Place the dough into the prepared pan.
- 18. Press up a crust edge about 4 centimeters high.
- 19. Spread the bacon and onion mixture evenly over the dough.
- 20. Whisk the eggs with the cream and milk.
- 21. Stir in the grated Gruyère cheese.
- 22. Season the liquid with salt, pepper, and ground nutmeg.
- 23. Pour the egg-cream mixture over the topping.
- 24. Bake the pie for about 45 minutes until golden brown.
