  1. 1. Rinse the Brussels sprouts under running water.
  2. 2. Remove any wilted outer leaves.
  3. 3. Trim the flat bottom end of the stem.
  4. 4. Make a small cross-shaped cut into the stem end with a sharp knife.
  5. 5. Bring a large pot of water with plenty of salt to a boil.
  6. 6. Add the Brussels sprouts to the boiling water.
  7. 7. Cook them for about 12 minutes until they are tender-crisp.
  8. 8. Drain the water.
  9. 9. Rinse the sprouts immediately with cold water to stop the cooking process.
  10. 10. Let the water drain off well.
  11. 11. Cut the bacon into thin strips.
  12. 12. Heat butter in a large pan.
  13. 13. Fry the bacon strips for 2 to 3 minutes until lightly browned.
  14. 14. Add the drained Brussels sprouts to the pan.
  15. 15. Toss the sprouts in the pan until they are hot.
  16. 16. Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of ground nutmeg.
  17. 17. Serve the dish immediately.
