  1. 1. Peel the garlic cloves.
  2. 2. Wash the asparagus thoroughly.
  3. 3. Trim the woody ends of the asparagus.
  4. 4. Peel the bottom three centimeters of the asparagus.
  5. 5. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  6. 6. Add the asparagus and garlic to the boiling water for about 5 minutes.
  7. 7. Remove the asparagus and garlic from the water immediately.
  8. 8. Place them in cold water to stop the cooking process.
  9. 9. Preheat your grill.
  10. 10. Rinse the basil briefly.
  11. 11. Chop the basil coarsely.
  12. 12. Set aside a few thyme sprigs for garnish.
  13. 13. Pick the leaves off the remaining thyme stems.
  14. 14. Mix the lemon juice with the oil.
  15. 15. Stir the chopped herbs into the oil-lemon mixture.
  16. 16. Season the mixture with salt and pepper.
  17. 17. Place the asparagus and garlic on the grill.
  18. 18. Use an aluminum foil tray for the food if possible.
  19. 19. Cook the food on the grill for about 8 minutes.
  20. 20. Turn the food frequently to ensure even cooking.
  21. 21. Brush the food several times with the herb-oil mixture.
  22. 22. Arrange the asparagus on plates.
  23. 23. Drizzle the asparagus with the remaining oil.
  24. 24. Serve the asparagus with thin shavings of Parmesan cheese.
