  1. 1. Peel the asparagus thoroughly.
  2. 2. Cut off the tough, woody ends of the stalks.
  3. 3. Pour 3 liters of water into a large pot.
  4. 4. Stir 2 tablespoons of sugar into the water.
  5. 5. Add 3 tablespoons of salt.
  6. 6. Bring the liquid to a boil.
  7. 7. Cook the asparagus in it for about 20 minutes.
  8. 8. Remove the asparagus from the pot.
  9. 9. Let the asparagus drain well.
  10. 10. Lay a ham slice flat on your work surface.
  11. 11. Place one asparagus spear crosswise on the ham slice.
  12. 12. Roll the ham tightly around the asparagus.
  13. 13. Repeat this for all asparagus stalks.
  14. 14. Place the finished rolls on plates.
  15. 15. Drizzle 3 to 4 tablespoons of olive oil over each roll.
  16. 16. Season the dish with black pepper.
  17. 17. Serve the rolls immediately.
