  1. 1. Slice the bread rolls into thin pieces and place them in a large bowl.
  2. 2. Pour the hot milk over the bread slices and let the mixture soak for ten minutes.
  3. 3. Peel the onion and dice it into small cubes.
  4. 4. Sauté the onion cubes in hot butter until they become translucent.
  5. 5. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in marjoram and parsley.
  6. 6. Add the seasoned onion mixture to the soaked bread.
  7. 7. Knead the eggs into the mixture until a smooth dough forms.
  8. 8. If the dough is too sticky, knead in some breadcrumbs.
  9. 9. Season the dough with salt, pepper, and ground nutmeg.
  10. 10. Bring plenty of salted water to a boil in a large pot.
  11. 11. Wet your hands with water and shape the dough into round dumplings.
  12. 12. Gently place the dumplings into the boiling water.
  13. 13. Reduce the heat so that the water is just simmering.
  14. 14. Let the dumplings cook for about twenty minutes.
  15. 15. Lift the cooked dumplings out of the water with a slotted spoon.
  16. 16. Let the dumplings drain briefly and serve them warm.
