🍽️ Classic Bread Dumplings

Ingredients
- 8 stale rolls
- 350 ml milk
- 1 onion
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp dried marjoram
- 2 tbsp freshly chopped parsley
- 2 eggs
- breadcrumbs (as needed)
- salt
- pepper (from the mill)
- nutmeg
Instructions
- 1. Slice the bread rolls into thin pieces and place them in a large bowl.
- 2. Pour the hot milk over the bread slices and let the mixture soak for ten minutes.
- 3. Peel the onion and dice it into small cubes.
- 4. Sauté the onion cubes in hot butter until they become translucent.
- 5. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in marjoram and parsley.
- 6. Add the seasoned onion mixture to the soaked bread.
- 7. Knead the eggs into the mixture until a smooth dough forms.
- 8. If the dough is too sticky, knead in some breadcrumbs.
- 9. Season the dough with salt, pepper, and ground nutmeg.
- 10. Bring plenty of salted water to a boil in a large pot.
- 11. Wet your hands with water and shape the dough into round dumplings.
- 12. Gently place the dumplings into the boiling water.
- 13. Reduce the heat so that the water is just simmering.
- 14. Let the dumplings cook for about twenty minutes.
- 15. Lift the cooked dumplings out of the water with a slotted spoon.
- 16. Let the dumplings drain briefly and serve them warm.
