  1. 1. Pour the flour onto a clean work surface and create a small well in the center.
  2. 2. Spread the sugar, vanilla sugar, butter pieces, and salt onto the ring of flour around the well.
  3. 3. Place the egg into the center of the well.
  4. 4. Roughly chop the ingredients with your hands until crumbs form.
  5. 5. Quickly knead the mixture into a smooth dough.
  6. 6. If the dough is too dry, add a little flour, or add cold water if it is too sticky.
  7. 7. Divide the dough into two equal halves.
  8. 8. Finely chop the candied orange peel.
  9. 9. Knead the finely chopped orange peel into the first portion of the dough.
  10. 10. Knead the cocoa powder and cream into the second portion of the dough.
  11. 11. Wrap each portion of dough separately in cling film.
  12. 12. Place the wrapped doughs in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
  13. 13. Shape each portion of dough into two long rolls with a diameter of 3 to 4 centimeters.
  14. 14. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius fan mode.
  15. 15. Slice the dough rolls into 3 to 4 millimeter thick rounds using a sharp knife.
  16. 16. Place the slices on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
  17. 17. Bake the cookies in the oven for 10 to 12 minutes.
  18. 18. Carefully remove the cookies from the tray and let them cool completely.
