  1. 1. Mix the flour with the salt, the lemon zest, the vanilla sugar, and the sugar in a bowl.
  2. 2. Cut the butter roughly into the flour mixture.
  3. 3. Whisk the eggs, the egg yolk, the rum, and the yogurt in a small cup.
  4. 4. Pour the egg mixture onto the dry ingredients and knead everything into a smooth dough.
  5. 5. Continue kneading the dough until it is elastic and no longer sticks to your fingers.
  6. 6. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.
  7. 7. Cover the dough and place it in the refrigerator for 15 to 20 minutes.
  8. 8. Divide the dough into two or three equal parts.
  9. 9. Dust a work surface with flour and roll out one dough part to about 3 millimeters thick.
  10. 10. Cut the dough into strips about 1.5 centimeters wide and 25 centimeters long.
  11. 11. Loosely roll each strip into a spiral.
  12. 12. Place the spiral into a deep, round skimmer spoon.
  13. 13. Heat the fat in a pot to about 170 degrees Celsius.
  14. 14. Hold the spoon with the dough carefully into the hot fat.
  15. 15. Wait until the dough keeps its shape in the fat.
  16. 16. Fry the rings for 3 to 4 minutes until golden brown, turning them once or twice.
  17. 17. Remove the finished rings from the fat and place them on kitchen paper.
  18. 18. Let the rings drain on the kitchen paper and cool down completely.
  19. 19. Dust the cooled rings with powdered sugar before serving.
