  1. 1. Place the ham in a large pot.
  2. 2. Pour in enough cold water to cover the meat by about two finger widths.
  3. 3. Finely chop the onion.
  4. 4. Add the chopped onion, a bay leaf, some peppercorns, cloves, and juniper berries to the water.
  5. 5. Slowly bring the liquid to a boil.
  6. 6. Let the ham simmer gently for one hour.
  7. 7. Remove the ham from the pot and pat it dry.
  8. 8. Rub the entire surface of the meat with black pepper.
  9. 9. Place the ham in a roasting pan or baking tray.
  10. 10. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
  11. 11. Put the ham into the preheated oven.
  12. 12. Roast the ham for about 60 minutes.
  13. 13. Brush the ham with wine repeatedly during the roasting time.
  14. 14. Remove the ham from the oven.
  15. 15. Serve the roast with fresh grapes.
