  1. 1. Peel the asparagus completely.
  2. 2. Cut off the hard, woody ends of the asparagus spears.
  3. 3. Bring a pot of water to a boil and add some salt.
  4. 4. Cook the asparagus over medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes.
  5. 5. Drain the cooking water.
  6. 6. Rinse the asparagus briefly with cold water to stop the cooking process.
  7. 7. Pat the asparagus dry with a cloth.
  8. 8. Wash the cherry tomatoes under running water.
  9. 9. Cut each cherry tomato in half.
  10. 10. Brush a shallow baking dish lightly with oil.
  11. 11. Take three to four asparagus spears together.
  12. 12. Wrap a slice of ham around the bundle of asparagus.
  13. 13. Place the ham-asparagus rolls into the prepared baking dish.
  14. 14. Distribute the halved cherry tomatoes evenly over the rolls.
  15. 15. Put cream cheese, one egg, milk, and 40 g of grated Parmesan into a bowl.
  16. 16. Stir the ingredients for the sauce vigorously until a smooth mixture forms.
  17. 17. Season the sauce with a pinch of salt and freshly ground pepper.
  18. 18. Wash the fresh chives and shake them dry.
  19. 19. Cut the chives into fine rings.
  20. 20. Set aside half of the chive rings for later.
  21. 21. Stir the remaining half of the chive rings into the cheese sauce.
  22. 22. Pour the sauce evenly over all the asparagus rolls in the dish.
  23. 23. Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan generously over the sauce.
  24. 24. Preheat the oven to 200 °C (180 °C with fan or gas level 3).
  25. 25. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven.
  26. 26. Bake the rolls for 20 to 25 minutes.
  27. 27. Remove the dish from the oven as soon as the surface is golden brown and gratinated.
  28. 28. Sprinkle the finished rolls with the reserved chive rings.
