  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius with top and bottom heat.
  2. 2. Cut the bacon into coarse cubes.
  3. 3. Cook the pasta in boiling salted water until al dente (firm to the bite).
  4. 4. Drain the pasta, rinse briefly with cold water, and let them drain well.
  5. 5. Grease a heatproof baking dish with some butter.
  6. 6. Peel the onions and garlic and chop them finely.
  7. 7. Sauté the onions, garlic, and bacon in a hot pan with oil.
  8. 8. Wash the basil, shake it dry, and pluck the leaves from the stems.
  9. 9. Finely chop the basil leaves.
  10. 10. Mix the cream with the eggs, half of the cheese, the chopped basil, salt, and pepper.
  11. 11. Fold the bacon-onion mixture into the cream-egg mixture.
  12. 12. Stir the pasta into the sauce.
  13. 13. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  14. 14. Distribute small flakes of butter over the surface.
  15. 15. Sprinkle the gratin with the remaining grated cheese.
  16. 16. Bake the gratin in the oven for about 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
