  4. 4. Remove the seeds from the bell peppers.
  5. 5. Rinse the bell peppers.
  6. 6. Cut the bell peppers into thin strips.
  7. 7. Heat the oil in a large pot.
  8. 8. Add the pepper strips to the pot.
  9. 9. Sauté the peppers, stirring occasionally, for 1 to 2 minutes.
  10. 10. Sprinkle the peppers with paprika powder.
  11. 11. Pour 500 milliliters of water into the pot.
  12. 12. Add the bay leaf to the soup.
  13. 13. Season the soup with a little salt.
  14. 14. Open the can of tomatoes.
  15. 15. Roughly chop the tomatoes directly in the can using a knife.
  16. 16. Add the tomatoes along with their juice to the pot.
  17. 17. Cut the sauerkraut into smaller pieces.
  18. 18. Add the sauerkraut to the tomatoes in the pot.
  19. 19. Add the diced sour pickles to the pot.
  20. 20. Add a little pickle juice to the pot.
  21. 21. Bring the soup to a boil.
  22. 22. Reduce the heat to low.
  23. 23. Simmer the soup for about 15 minutes.
  24. 24. Stir the soup occasionally.
  25. 25. Wait 10 minutes after the cooking has started.
  26. 26. Fold the sausage slices into the soup.
  27. 27. Heat the sausages through in the soup.
  28. 28. Season the soup with salt to taste.
  29. 29. Season the soup with pepper to taste.
  30. 30. Adjust the flavor with a little pickle juice.
  31. 31. Place a dollop of sour cream on each serving of Soljanka.
  32. 32. Serve the Soljanka with whole grain rolls.
