  1. 1. Wash the half apple under running water.
  2. 2. Dry the apple with a kitchen towel.
  3. 3. Cut the apple into two halves.
  4. 4. Remove the core from the apple halves.
  5. 5. Dice the apple flesh into very small cubes.
  6. 6. Put the sauerkraut into a large bowl.
  7. 7. Fluff up the sauerkraut with a fork.
  8. 8. Add the apple cubes and the cranberries to the sauerkraut.
  9. 9. Mix everything well together.
  10. 10. Season the mixture with salt and pepper.
  11. 11. Transfer the mixture into a small baking dish.
  12. 12. Spread the almonds evenly over the sauerkraut.
  13. 13. Drizzle some honey over the almonds.
  14. 14. Preheat the oven to 180 °C (160 °C with fan or Gas Level 2-3).
  15. 15. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven.
  16. 16. Bake the gratin for about 10 minutes.
