🍽️ Beef and Cheese Sandwich with Caramelized Onions and Tomatoes

Ingredients
- 1 tsp thyme
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp five-spice mix
- 0.5 tsp freshly grated ginger
- 4 tbsp soy sauce
- 4 beef fillet steaks (kitchen-ready, 160 g each)
- 3 onions
- 4 tbsp vegetable oil
- 4 ciabatta rolls
- 1 tsp powdered sugar
- 16 marinated, dried tomatoes (in oil)
- 4 slices cheese (e.g. Emmental)
Instructions
- 1. Mix thyme, tomato paste, spices, ginger, and soy sauce in a small bowl.
- 2. Rinse the meat under running water and pat it dry with a kitchen towel.
- 3. Coat the meat thoroughly with the marinade.
- 4. Let the meat marinate for one hour.
- 5. Peel the onions.
- 6. Cut the onions into thin strips.
- 7. Heat two tablespoons of oil in a pan.
- 8. Fry the steaks for about four minutes on each side.
- 9. Remove the steaks from the pan.
- 10. Let the meat rest briefly.
- 11. Turn on the oven grill and preheat it.
- 12. Slice the buns in half lengthwise.
- 13. Place the buns on an oven rack.
- 14. Toast the buns lightly under the preheated grill.
- 15. Heat some oil in another pan.
- 16. Fry the onion strips until golden brown.
- 17. Dust the onions with sugar.
- 18. Caramelize the onions slightly.
- 19. Spread the caramelized onions on the bottom halves of the buns.
- 20. Drain the dried tomatoes well.
- 21. Place the drained tomatoes on top of the onions.
- 22. Slice the meat into thin strips.
- 23. Place the meat strips on top of the tomatoes.
- 24. Cover the meat with one slice of cheese each.
- 25. Put the sandwiches under the grill for a short time.
- 26. Let the cheese melt.
- 27. Place the bun tops on.
- 28. Serve the sandwiches immediately.
