  1. 1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into small cubes.
  2. 2. Peel the onions, halve them, and cut them into fine cubes as well.
  3. 3. Peel the carrots and grate them coarsely.
  4. 4. Heat the ghee (clarified butter) in a large pot.
  5. 5. Sear the meat on high heat.
  6. 6. Add the potatoes, carrots, and onions to the meat.
  7. 7. Fry the vegetables briefly.
  8. 8. Deglaze the mixture with vodka.
  9. 9. Pour in the broth.
  10. 10. Cook everything in the covered pot for approx. 1 hour.
  11. 11. Wait until the vegetables fall apart and the meat is tender.
  12. 12. Wash the tomatoes and slice them.
  13. 13. Drain the capers.
  14. 14. Dice the pickles.
  15. 15. Add the remaining ingredients to the stew.
  16. 16. Warm everything through.
  17. 17. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  18. 18. Serve the stew with fresh piroggen (filled pastries).
