  1. 1. Slice the lemon into thin rounds.
  2. 2. Add the lemon slices, red wine, sugar, and cinnamon stick to a pot.
  3. 3. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  4. 4. Let the liquid simmer gently for 10 minutes over low heat.
  5. 5. Peel the pears.
  6. 6. Remove the core from the bottom using a sharp knife.
  7. 7. Remove the cinnamon stick and lemon slices from the wine.
  8. 8. Place the pears upright and close together in a large pot.
  9. 9. Pour the red wine over the pears.
  10. 10. Cover the pot.
  11. 11. Simmer the pears on low heat for 15 to 20 minutes.
  12. 12. Ladle some of the liquid over the pears repeatedly to keep them moist.
  13. 13. Remove the cooked pears from the liquid.
  14. 14. Place the pears on plates.
  15. 15. Continue to boil down the remaining red wine until it becomes syrupy.
  16. 16. Pour the sauce over the pears just before serving.
