  1. 1. Cut off the hard stem at the bottom of each individual Brussels sprout.
  2. 2. Remove any wilted or damaged outer leaves.
  3. 3. Make a cross-shaped cut into the remaining stem.
  4. 4. Fill a pot with some water and bring it to a boil.
  5. 5. Place the Brussels sprouts in a steamer insert and set it in the pot.
  6. 6. Steam the cabbage under a lid for 8 to 10 minutes until tender.
  7. 7. While steaming, put the almonds into a dry pan.
  8. 8. Toast the almonds without extra fat until golden brown.
  9. 9. Melt the butter in a separate pot or pan.
  10. 10. Add the steamed Brussels sprouts to the melted butter.
  11. 11. Toss the cabbage briefly in the butter to warm it through.
  12. 12. Sprinkle the toasted almonds over the Brussels sprouts.
  13. 13. Season the dish finally with salt and ground nutmeg.
