  1. 1. Crumble the yeast into a small bowl.
  2. 2. Add 1 teaspoon of sugar, 50 milliliters of the milk, and 1 tablespoon of flour.
  3. 3. Mix the ingredients well together.
  4. 4. Cover the bowl and place it in a warm, draft-free spot.
  5. 5. Let the yeast mixture rise for 20 minutes.
  6. 6. Add the yeast mixture to a large bowl along with the remaining ingredients (except the raisins).
  7. 7. Knead the ingredients vigorously until a smooth dough forms.
  8. 8. Dust your work surface with a little flour.
  9. 9. Place the dough on the floured surface.
  10. 10. Work the dough vigorously with your hands for at least 15 to 20 minutes.
  11. 11. Return the dough to the bowl.
  12. 12. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise for at least 1 hour.
  13. 13. Wait until the volume of the dough has doubled.
  14. 14. Drain the rum raisins.
  15. 15. Divide the dough into two equal halves.
  16. 16. Shape each half into a stollen.
  17. 17. Place the stollen on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
  18. 18. Let the stollen rise again for 1 hour.
  19. 19. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
  20. 20. Bake the stollen in the preheated oven for approx. 1 hour.
  21. 21. Brush the hot stollen immediately with butter.
  22. 22. Let the stollen cool down completely.
  23. 23. Dust the cooled stollen generously with powdered sugar.
