  3. 3. Place the garlic, the milk, and 300 milliliters of lightly salted water in a pot.
  4. 4. Bring the mixture in the pot to a boil.
  5. 5. Add the cornmeal to the boiling liquid.
  6. 6. Stir constantly while doing so.
  7. 7. Reduce the heat to the lowest setting.
  8. 8. Let the polenta swell at this low heat for 40 minutes.
  9. 9. Stir the polenta several times during this period.
  10. 10. Grate the Parmesan cheese in the meantime.
  11. 11. Stir the grated Parmesan into the polenta.
  12. 12. Season the polenta generously with salt and pepper.
  13. 13. Serve the polenta.
