  1. 1. Put sugar, honey, and butter into a small saucepan.
  2. 2. Heat the mixture while stirring constantly until the sugar has completely dissolved.
  3. 3. Let the mixture cool down for a short while.
  4. 4. Stir the egg into the cooled honey-butter mixture.
  5. 5. Mix flour, baking powder, and gingerbread spice in a separate bowl.
  6. 6. Add the honey-egg mixture to the flour mixture little by little.
  7. 7. Stir everything together until you have a smooth dough.
  8. 8. Preheat the oven to 160 degrees Celsius fan-assisted.
  9. 9. Line two baking sheets with baking paper.
  10. 10. Sprinkle some flour on your work surface.
  11. 11. Roll out the dough to about 4 millimeters thick.
  12. 12. Cut out heart shapes from the dough using a cookie cutter.
  13. 13. Place the hearts onto the prepared baking sheets.
  14. 14. Slide the sheets onto the middle rack in the oven.
  15. 15. Bake the cookies for 10 to 12 minutes.
  16. 16. Take the sheets out of the oven.
  17. 17. Let the cookies cool down completely on a wire rack.
  18. 18. Mix powdered sugar and lemon juice to form a thick glaze.
  19. 19. Color the glaze with red food coloring.
  20. 20. Brush about one-third of the cooled hearts with the red glaze.
  21. 21. Lightly dust the remaining hearts with powdered sugar.
  22. 22. Glue three hearts together to form a larger motif.
  23. 23. Place the powdered hearts on top of the red ones.
  24. 24. Let the decorated cookies dry before serving.
