🍽️ Heart-shaped Gingerbread Cookies with Sugar Glaze

Ingredients
- 125 g brown sugar
- 125 g honey
- 75 g butter
- 1 egg
- 300 g flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp gingerbread spice
- flour (for working)
- 150 g powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- red food coloring
- powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- 1. Put sugar, honey, and butter into a small saucepan.
- 2. Heat the mixture while stirring constantly until the sugar has completely dissolved.
- 3. Let the mixture cool down for a short while.
- 4. Stir the egg into the cooled honey-butter mixture.
- 5. Mix flour, baking powder, and gingerbread spice in a separate bowl.
- 6. Add the honey-egg mixture to the flour mixture little by little.
- 7. Stir everything together until you have a smooth dough.
- 8. Preheat the oven to 160 degrees Celsius fan-assisted.
- 9. Line two baking sheets with baking paper.
- 10. Sprinkle some flour on your work surface.
- 11. Roll out the dough to about 4 millimeters thick.
- 12. Cut out heart shapes from the dough using a cookie cutter.
- 13. Place the hearts onto the prepared baking sheets.
- 14. Slide the sheets onto the middle rack in the oven.
- 15. Bake the cookies for 10 to 12 minutes.
- 16. Take the sheets out of the oven.
- 17. Let the cookies cool down completely on a wire rack.
- 18. Mix powdered sugar and lemon juice to form a thick glaze.
- 19. Color the glaze with red food coloring.
- 20. Brush about one-third of the cooled hearts with the red glaze.
- 21. Lightly dust the remaining hearts with powdered sugar.
- 22. Glue three hearts together to form a larger motif.
- 23. Place the powdered hearts on top of the red ones.
- 24. Let the decorated cookies dry before serving.
