🍽️ Spicy English Bread Sauce

Ingredients
- 1 onion
- 2 cloves
- 1 fresh bay leaf
- 400 ml milk
- 50 g white bread (crusts removed)
- 1 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp crème fraîche
- 1 tsp horseradish (from the jar)
- salt
- white pepper (from the mill)
- nutmeg
Instructions
- 1. Peel the onion and stud it with the cloves.
- 2. Place the onion, milk, and bay leaf in a pot.
- 3. Bring the milk to a boil.
- 4. Let the mixture steep for about 20 minutes with the lid on.
- 5. Remove the onion and the bay leaf from the milk.
- 6. Crumble the white bread into the warm milk.
- 7. Remove the pot from the heat and let the mixture steep for another 15 minutes.
- 8. Stir in the butter, crème fraîche, horseradish, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
- 9. Blend the sauce until smooth.
- 10. Season the sauce to taste with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
- 11. Pour the sauce into a pre-warmed gravy boat.
- 12. Sprinkle a little ground nutmeg over the finished sauce.
