  2. 2. Add the bow-tie pasta to the boiling water and cook until al dente.
  3. 3. Heat the oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  4. 4. Add the chopped onions to the pan and sauté until they are soft and translucent.
  5. 5. Add the chopped tomatoes and the whole garlic cloves to the onion mixture.
  6. 6. Let the sauce come to a brief boil.
  7. 7. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let the sauce simmer for 5 to 6 minutes.
  8. 8. Stir the sauce occasionally while it cooks.
  9. 9. Season the sauce with salt, sugar, pepper, and grated nutmeg.
  10. 10. Remove the whole garlic cloves from the sauce.
  11. 11. Drain the cooked pasta.
  12. 12. Divide the pasta among the plates.
  13. 13. Spoon 3 to 4 tablespoons of the tomato sauce over the pasta.
  14. 14. Garnish the dish with fresh basil leaves.
  15. 15. Serve the pasta immediately while warm.
