  1. 1. Preheat your oven to 270 degrees Celsius with fan and grill setting.
  2. 2. Wash the peppers thoroughly.
  3. 3. Remove the stems and seeds from the peppers.
  4. 4. Halve the peppers lengthwise.
  5. 5. Cut the pepper halves into thin strips.
  6. 6. Place the pepper pieces skin-side up on a baking sheet.
  7. 7. Put the baking sheet on the second rack from the top in the preheated oven.
  8. 8. Bake the peppers until the skin develops dark, blistered char marks.
  9. 9. Remove the peppers from the oven.
  10. 10. Peel off the charred skin from the pepper pieces.
  11. 11. Cut the flesh of the peppers into thin strips.
  12. 12. Peel the garlic.
  13. 13. Chop the garlic very finely.
  14. 14. Peel the shallot.
  15. 15. Slice the shallot into thin rings.
  16. 16. Rinse the anchovy fillets under running water to remove salt.
  17. 17. Let the anchovy fillets drain.
  18. 18. Wash the basil.
  19. 19. Shake off excess water from the basil.
  20. 20. Pluck the basil leaves from the stems.
