  1. 1. Soak the raisins in water.
  2. 2. Mix the dry yeast with the milk and one teaspoon of sugar.
  3. 3. Let the yeast mixture rise for 15 minutes.
  4. 4. Sift the flour into a bowl.
  5. 5. Add all other ingredients and the risen yeast to the bowl.
  6. 6. Process the ingredients with the dough hook of the hand mixer, first on the lowest setting and then on the highest setting, for about 5 minutes to form a smooth dough.
  7. 7. Divide the dough into two equal pieces.
  8. 8. Shape the dough pieces into strands about 70 cm long.
  9. 9. Twist the two strands together.
  10. 10. Place the strands on a greased baking sheet.
  11. 11. Connect the ends to form a wreath.
  12. 12. Cover the wreath with a kitchen towel.
  13. 13. Let the wreath rise again for 20 minutes.
  14. 14. Preheat the oven to 180 to 200 degrees.
  15. 15. Whisk the egg yolk with the milk.
  16. 16. Brush the wreaths with the egg yolk and milk mixture.
  17. 17. Bake the wreaths in the oven for 45 minutes until golden yellow.
  18. 18. Remove the wreaths from the oven and let them cool.
  19. 19. Decorate the cooled wreaths with colorful eggs or sweets.
