🍽️ Grandma's Herring Salad

Ingredients
- 4 Matjes double fillets
- 1 red onion
- 2 tart apples
- 2 pickles
- 100 g sour cream
- 100 g yogurt
- 50 g mayonnaise
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- salt
- 1 pinch sugar
- pepper
- 2 tbsp freshly chopped dill
Instructions
- 1. Rinse the herring fillets briefly under running water.
- 2. Pat the fillets dry gently with a kitchen towel.
- 3. Cut the fillets into small, bite-sized pieces.
- 4. Peel the onion.
- 5. Dice the onion finely.
- 6. Wash the apples.
- 7. Peel the apples.
- 8. Halve the apples.
- 9. Remove the core from the apple halves.
- 10. Cut the apple halves into fine cubes.
- 11. Cut the gherkins into fine cubes as well.
- 12. Set aside one to two tablespoons of the pickle juice.
- 13. Stir the sour cream with the yogurt.
- 14. Stir the mayonnaise into the cream-yogurt mixture.
- 15. Add the reserved pickle juice.
- 16. Add the lemon juice.
- 17. Stir everything into a smooth sauce.
- 18. Season the sauce with salt to your liking.
- 19. Season the sauce with sugar to your liking.
- 20. Season the sauce with pepper to your liking.
- 21. Gently fold the herring into the sauce.
- 22. Gently fold the dill into the sauce.
- 23. Gently fold the apples into the sauce.
- 24. Gently fold the onions into the sauce.
- 25. Gently fold the gherkins into the sauce.
- 26. Serve the herring salad with crispbread as desired.
