  1. 1. Halve the dates and plums. Remove the stones from the fruit flesh. Roughly chop the fruits. Grease the springform pan with butter. Dust the pan with breadcrumbs. Turn the pan upside down. Tap the bottom so that only a thin layer of crumbs remains.
  2. 2. Place the chopped dates and plums in a large bowl. Add the butter. Pour boiling water over the mixture. Stir until the butter has melted. Let the mixture cool down.
  3. 3. Add sugar, eggs, lemon zest, and salt to a second bowl. Whisk the mixture until frothy. Sift flour and baking powder into the bowl. Add the walnut kernels. Mix everything well. Combine the batter with the cooled date and plum mixture. Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Smooth the surface. Bake the cake in a preheated oven at 190 degrees for approx. 1 hour and 15 minutes. Cover the cake with aluminum foil if necessary. Definitely perform the skewer test (Insert a wooden skewer into the cake; if it comes out clean, it is done).
  4. 4. Let the cake cool slightly in the pan. Turn the cake out onto a wire rack. Let the cake cool completely overnight. Cut the cake in half horizontally. Spread jam on the cut surface. Place the second cake layer on top. Place a stencil on the cake as desired. Dust the cake with powdered sugar.
