  1. 1. Pile the regular flour, wholemeal flour, brown sugar, vanilla sugar, orange zest, salt, almonds, and walnuts onto a clean work surface.
  2. 2. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture.
  3. 3. Place the butter in small pieces and the egg into the well.
  4. 4. Roughly chop the ingredients together using a dough scraper.
  5. 5. Quickly knead the mixture into a smooth dough.
  6. 6. Add a little flour or cold water if necessary to adjust the consistency.
  7. 7. Wrap the dough tightly in cling film.
  8. 8. Let the dough rest in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
  9. 9. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees Celsius using the top and bottom heat setting.
  10. 10. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
  11. 11. Take the dough out of the fridge and roll it out in portions on a floured surface.
  12. 12. Ensure the dough is about 3 to 4 millimeters thick.
  13. 13. Cut heart shapes out of the dough.
  14. 14. Place the hearts onto the prepared baking tray.
  15. 15. Bake the hearts in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes until they are golden brown.
  16. 16. Carefully remove the baked hearts from the tray.
  17. 17. Let the hearts cool completely on a wire rack.
