  1. 1. Boil water in a large pot and add salt. Cook the pasta in it until it is al dente (firm to the bite).
  2. 2. Pour boiling water over the tomatoes. Peel off the skin. Cut the tomatoes into quarters and remove the seeds. Dice the flesh into small cubes.
  3. 3. Wash the chili pepper. Slice it into thin rings.
  4. 4. Peel the onion and the garlic. Dice the onion and slice the garlic thinly.
  5. 5. Heat oil in a large pan. Fry the bacon until crispy.
  6. 6. Add the diced onion, garlic slices, and chili rings to the pan. Sauté them briefly.
  7. 7. Stir in the diced tomatoes. Top up the pan with some cooking water or broth.
  8. 8. Season the sauce with salt and pepper. Let it simmer on medium heat for 15 minutes.
  9. 9. Wash the basil and shake it dry. Pluck the leaves off the stems.
  10. 10. Fry the basil leaves briefly in hot oil until crispy. Set them aside.
  11. 11. Drain the pasta. Add it directly to the pan with the tomato sauce.
  12. 12. Toss the pasta briefly in the sauce to distribute it evenly.
  13. 13. Fill the pasta into pre-warmed bowls.
  14. 14. Sprinkle the pasta with the fried basil leaves. Serve immediately.
