🍝 Pasta Gratin with Olives and Herbs

Ingredients
- 2 cloves garlic
- sea salt
- 2 handfuls basil
- 5 tbsp olive oil
- 6 ripe tomatoes
- 1 red bell pepper
- 1 yellow bell pepper
- 250 g buffalo mozzarella
- 400 g fusilli
- 3 tbsp black, pitted olives
- pepper (freshly ground)
Instructions
- 1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius with top and bottom heat.
- 2. Peel the garlic cloves and cut them into coarse pieces.
- 3. Place the garlic pieces into a mortar.
- 4. Sprinkle the garlic with a little salt.
- 5. Mash the garlic and salt together into a fine paste.
- 6. Add the basil to the garlic paste.
- 7. Mash the basil into a fine paste as well.
- 8. Stir 4 tablespoons of olive oil into the herb mixture.
- 9. Wash the tomatoes thoroughly.
- 10. Remove the stem area from the tomatoes.
- 11. Slice the tomatoes into thin rounds.
- 12. Wash the bell peppers.
- 13. Halve the bell peppers.
- 14. Remove the seeds from the bell peppers.
- 15. Cut the bell peppers into thin strips.
- 16. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a frying pan.
- 17. Sauté the pepper strips for 5 minutes over medium heat.
- 18. Drain the mozzarella cheese.
- 19. Cube the mozzarella cheese.
- 20. Cook the pasta in plenty of salted water until al dente.
- 21. Drain the pasta.
- 22. Place the pasta into a bowl.
- 23. Mix the pasta with the garlic-basil pesto.
- 24. Add the olives and pepper strips to the pasta mixture.
- 25. Stir everything well together.
- 26. Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste.
- 27. Line a round baking dish with the tomato slices.
- 28. Place half of the pasta mixture into the prepared dish.
- 29. Distribute the cubed mozzarella evenly over the pasta layer.
- 30. Place the remaining pasta mixture on top.
- 31. Place the remaining tomato slices on top of the gratin as a cover.
- 32. Place the dish in the preheated oven.
- 33. Bake the gratin for about 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.
- 34. Remove the gratin from the oven.
- 35. Let it rest briefly before serving.
