Ingredients
- 150 g ready-made sushi rice
- Vinegar water (for shaping)
- 150 g smoked mackerel fillet
- 1 tsp wasabi
- 0.5 toasted nori seaweed
Instructions
- 1. Prepare a small bowl of vinegar water. Dip your hands briefly into it so the rice does not stick.
- 2. Divide the sushi rice into 8 equal portions.
- 3. Shape each rice portion into an oblong patty or oval ball using your damp hands.
- 4. Cut the mackerel fillet into 8 equal pieces.
- 5. Spread a thin layer of wasabi on the underside of each mackerel piece.
- 6. Place a rice ball onto the wasabi-coated side of the mackerel.
- 7. Press the rice ball down gently so it sticks.
- 8. Hold the nigiri in your left hand. Press down on the rice with the tip of your left thumb to stabilize the shape.
- 9. Turn the nigiri over so the rice side faces down.
- 10. Reshape the nigiri with your fingers if necessary to ensure it looks neat.
- 11. Repeat steps 6 to 10 for the remaining mackerel nigiri.
- 12. Cut the nori sheet into 8 narrow strips.
- 13. Wrap one nori strip around each nigiri.
- 14. Lightly moisten the ends of the nori on the underside of the nigiri with water.
- 15. Press the ends together so the nori stays in place.
- 16. Arrange the finished nigiri with the rice side facing down.
