🍽️ Shortbread Cookies

Ingredients
- 200 g flour
- 100 g cold butter
- 75 sugar
- 0.5 tsp baking powder
- 1 packet vanilla sugar
- 2 tsp grated orange peel
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 egg
- 200 g powdered sugar
- 1 egg white
- food coloring
- sugar pearls (and sprinkles)
Instructions
- 1. Mound the flour onto a clean work surface.
- 2. Mix the flour with baking powder, sugar, vanilla sugar, the orange zest, and the salt.
- 3. Press a well into the center of the flour mixture.
- 4. Cut the cold butter into small cubes.
- 5. Distribute the butter pieces around the well.
- 6. Place the egg in the center of the well.
- 7. Add about two tablespoons of lukewarm water.
- 8. Chop all ingredients roughly with a knife until small crumbs form.
- 9. Knead the crumbs quickly by hand into a smooth dough.
- 10. Shape the dough into a ball.
- 11. Wrap the dough ball in cling film.
- 12. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for about two hours.
- 13. Place the dough between two sheets of baking paper.
- 14. Roll out the dough to a thickness of about six to seven millimeters.
- 15. Cut out various shapes using cookie cutters as desired.
- 16. Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
- 17. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
- 18. Bake the cookies in the oven for about 15 minutes.
- 19. Mix powdered sugar with egg white to make a glaze.
- 20. Divide the glaze into several small portions.
- 21. Color each portion with a different food coloring.
- 22. Brush the cooled cookies with the colored glaze.
- 23. Sprinkle the cookies immediately with sugar pearls and sprinkles.
