  1. 1. Pile the flour, sugar, and vanilla sugar on your work surface to form a mound. Press a well into the center, crack the egg into it, and distribute the butter in small cubes around the egg.
  2. 2. Take a large knife and roughly chop through the ingredients until small crumbs form.
  3. 3. Quickly knead the crumbs together with your hands to form a smooth dough. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator or another cool spot (between 0 and 10 degrees Celsius) for about 30 minutes.
  4. 4. Press the dough flat on a lightly floured work surface. Then roll it out to a thickness of about 3 to 4 millimeters.
  5. 5. Carefully loosen the dough from the surface using a cake spatula to prevent it from tearing.
  6. 6. Cut out stars or circles using cookie cutters or a knife. Place the cookies on a baking sheet, decorate them with sugar pearls as you like, and bake them in a preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius for 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown.
  7. 7. Take the hot cookies off the baking sheet immediately with a cake spatula and place them on a wire rack to cool down.
