  1. 1. Split the vanilla pod in half lengthwise.
  2. 2. Scrape out the vanilla seeds from the pods using a knife.
  3. 3. Add flour, raw cane sugar, salt, the vanilla seeds, an egg, and butter to a bowl.
  4. 4. Quickly knead the ingredients into a smooth dough.
  5. 5. Wrap the dough tightly in cling film.
  6. 6. Place the dough in the refrigerator for one hour to chill.
  7. 7. Preheat your oven to 200 degrees Celsius (180 degrees Celsius with fan or gas mark 3).
  8. 8. Take the dough out of the fridge and roll it out in portions to a thickness of about 3 millimeters on a floured surface.
  9. 9. Cut out any shapes you like from the dough.
  10. 10. Place the cookies on a baking sheet and bake them in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes until golden yellow.
