🍰 Moist Poppy Seed Cake with Orange Glaze

Ingredients
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 2 tbsp orange marmalade
- 1 untreated orange
- 100 g marzipan raw mass
- 200 g butter
- 150 g sugar
- 4 eggs
- 225 g flour
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 100 g ground poppy seeds
- 3 tbsp milk
Instructions
- 1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius with top and bottom heat.
- 2. Grease a loaf pan with butter and dust it with breadcrumbs.
- 3. Wash the orange under hot water and dry it thoroughly.
- 4. Finely grate the orange peel to obtain zest.
- 5. Cut the orange in half and squeeze out the juice.
- 6. Break the marzipan into small pieces.
- 7. Stir the marzipan with the orange juice until a creamy mixture forms.
- 8. Add the butter in pieces to the marzipan mixture.
- 9. Stir in the sugar alternately with the butter-marzipan mass.
- 10. Add the eggs one by one.
- 11. Whisk the entire mixture into a fluffy foam.
- 12. Mix the flour with the starch and baking powder in a separate bowl.
- 13. Stir the poppy seeds into the batter.
- 14. Add the flour mixture to the batter in portions and stir it in.
- 15. Add the milk and mix everything well.
- 16. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- 17. Smooth the surface of the batter.
- 18. Place the pan in the center of the oven.
- 19. Bake the cake for about 50 minutes.
- 20. Check the baking time with a wooden skewer, which must come out dry.
- 21. Remove the cake from the oven.
- 22. Let the cake cool down briefly in the pan.
- 23. Carefully remove the cake from the pan.
- 24. Place the cake on a wire rack and let it cool completely.
- 25. Boil the sugar with one tablespoon of water in a saucepan.
- 26. Add the orange zest to the boiling sugar mixture.
- 27. Let the zest simmer for three minutes.
- 28. Stir the orange marmalade into the mixture.
- 29. Bring the glaze to a boil again.
- 30. Brush the boiling hot glaze onto the still warm cake.
- 31. Let the cake cool completely.
- 32. Cut the cake into pieces and serve it.
