  1. 1. Peel the carrots, the onion, and the piece of ginger.
  2. 2. Cut all three ingredients into small cubes.
  3. 3. Heat the oil in a large pot.
  4. 4. Add the onion cubes and the ginger pieces to the pot.
  5. 5. Sauté the vegetables over medium heat for a short time until fragrant.
  6. 6. Add the carrot cubes and sauté them briefly as well.
  7. 7. Deglaze the mixture with the orange juice.
  8. 8. Pour in the vegetable broth.
  9. 9. Season the soup with salt and pepper.
  10. 10. Let the soup simmer over medium heat for 20 to 25 minutes.
  11. 11. Puree the soup finely using a hand blender.
  12. 12. Taste the soup again and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper.
  13. 13. Sprinkle some orange zest (grated peel) on top as a garnish.
  14. 14. Decorate the bowl with fresh basil leaves.
  15. 15. Serve the soup with an extra pinch of pepper.
