  2. 2. Cut the gherkins into small cubes as well.
  3. 3. Place the herring and cucumber cubes into a bowl.
  4. 4. Finely chop the shallots.
  5. 5. Finely chop the fresh herbs.
  6. 6. Add the shallots and herbs to the bowl.
  7. 7. Drizzle some oil over the mixture.
  8. 8. Sprinkle some pepper over it.
  9. 9. Mix all ingredients thoroughly.
  10. 10. Cover the bowl.
  11. 11. Let the salad marinate in the refrigerator for two hours.
  12. 12. Wash the apples thoroughly.
  13. 13. Remove the core from the apples.
  14. 14. Slice the apples into ten equal slices.
  15. 15. Drizzle lemon juice onto the apple slices.
  16. 16. Arrange the finished herring salad on top of the apple slices.
