  1. 1. Peel the onion and cut it in half.
  2. 2. Cut the onion halves into very thin slices.
  3. 3. Wash the marjoram and shake it dry.
  4. 4. Strip the small leaves from the marjoram stem.
  5. 5. Heat the butter in a pan.
  6. 6. Fry the onions in it for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. 7. Wash the apple under running water.
  8. 8. Dry the apple with a cloth.
  9. 9. Cut the apple into four equal quarters.
  10. 10. Remove the core from the apple quarters.
  11. 11. Slice the apple quarters into thin slices.
  12. 12. Add the apple slices and the marjoram leaves to the onion in the pan.
  13. 13. Fry the vegetable mixture for another 2 to 3 minutes.
  14. 14. Fry until the apple pieces are lightly browned.
  15. 15. Rinse the matjes fillets briefly under cold water.
  16. 16. Dry the matjes fillets with kitchen paper.
  17. 17. Season the apple and onion vegetable mix with some pepper.
  18. 18. Place the seasoned vegetable mix on the plate.
  19. 19. Place the matjes fillets on top of the vegetable mix.
  20. 20. Add cranberries as a side dish.
  21. 21. Serve the bread roll to eat with the dish.
