  1. 1. Fill a bowl with warm water.
  2. 2. Place the chestnuts in the water for about 30 minutes.
  3. 3. Take the chestnuts out of the water.
  4. 4. Dry them with a kitchen towel.
  5. 5. Cut a cross into the hard shell of each chestnut using a sharp, pointed knife.
  6. 6. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
  7. 7. Spread the chestnuts evenly on the tray.
  8. 8. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius top/bottom heat.
  9. 9. If you use fan-assisted heat, set the oven to 180 degrees.
  10. 10. If you have a gas oven, set it to level 3.
  11. 11. Put the tray into the hot oven.
  12. 12. Bake the chestnuts for about 20 minutes.
  13. 13. Take the tray out when the shells have opened up.
  14. 14. Let the chestnuts cool down for a moment.
  15. 15. Carefully remove the flesh from the shell.
  16. 16. Enjoy your warm chestnuts.
