  2. 2. In a bowl, mix the chopped cherries with the butter, brown sugar, salt, egg, flour, baking powder, spices, and almonds.
  3. 3. Knead the ingredients into a uniform dough.
  4. 4. Shape the dough into a log with a diameter of about 4 centimeters.
  5. 5. Wrap the dough log tightly in plastic wrap.
  6. 6. Place the log in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
  7. 7. Slice the chilled dough log into rounds about 5 millimeters thick.
  8. 8. Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
  9. 9. Whisk the egg yolk in a small bowl.
  10. 10. Brush the cookies evenly with the whisked egg yolk.
  11. 11. Halve the candied cherries.
  12. 12. Place one cherry half and some sliced almonds on each cookie.
  13. 13. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees (conventional or fan-assisted, depending on your appliance, middle rack).
  14. 14. Bake the cookies for about 12 minutes.
