  1. 1. Cut the peppers in half lengthwise.
  2. 2. Remove the seeds and the white inner membranes.
  3. 3. Wash the peppers and cut them into small pieces.
  4. 4. Pour boiling water over the tomatoes to loosen the skin.
  5. 5. Remove the skin and the stem bases of the tomatoes.
  6. 6. Cut the tomatoes into eighths.
  7. 7. Peel the onions and cut them in half.
  8. 8. Cut the onion halves into thin half-rings.
  9. 9. Cut the bacon into small cubes.
  10. 10. Heat the lard in a wide pot.
  11. 11. Fry the bacon cubes over medium heat.
  12. 12. Sauté the onions in the bacon fat.
  13. 13. Sprinkle the paprika powder over the mixture.
  14. 14. Add the pepper strips and the tomatoes to the pot.
  15. 15. Season the vegetables with salt and pepper.
  16. 16. Sauté the vegetables over high heat for about 3 minutes.
  17. 17. Pour in the vegetable broth and bring the mixture to a boil.
  18. 18. Reduce the heat.
  19. 19. Simmer the vegetables covered over low heat for about 30 minutes.
  20. 20. Fill the hot letscho into rinsed-out hot jars.
  21. 21. Seal the jars immediately.
  22. 22. Let the jars cool down standing on their lids for about 15 minutes.
  23. 23. Turn the jars over and let them cool completely.
