  1. 1. Warm up the butter, honey, and sugar in a pot while stirring constantly until the sugar has completely dissolved.
  2. 2. Let the mixture cool down briefly until it is only lukewarm.
  3. 3. Stir the spices, egg, salt, and cocoa into the cooled butter mixture.
  4. 4. Mix the flour with the baking powder in a separate bowl.
  5. 5. Knead the flour mixture into the butter mixture by hand until a smooth dough forms.
  6. 6. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
  7. 7. Dust a work surface with flour and roll out the dough there to a thickness of 1 centimeter.
  8. 8. Cut out the desired figures from the dough using cookie cutters.
  9. 9. Place the figures on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
  10. 10. Bake the figures at 200 degrees Celsius (gas mark 3) for about 12 minutes.
  11. 11. Let the baked figures cool down completely.
  12. 12. Stir powdered sugar with a small amount of water to make a thick icing.
  13. 13. Divide the icing into portions and color each portion with food coloring.
  14. 14. Fill the colored icings into small piping bags.
  15. 15. Decorate the cooled gingerbread figures with the colorful icing.
